Key Features
  • THE PERFECT SHOW-STOPPING AQUARIUM — The CLASSIC aquarium's design is inspired by the simple beauty of a classic fishbowl, a 360-degree view so you can admire all aspects of your biOrb. The 16-gallon (60 L) tank's size is ideal for tabletop display.
  • DURABLE CONSTRUCTION — biOrb aquariums are made from acrylic, which is 10 times stronger, 50% lighter, and 23% clearer than ordinary glass aquariums. Acrylic is also a good insulator, so you don't lose as much heat as you would with a glass aquarium.
  • FILTRATION SYSTEM IS EASY TO MAINTAIN — All biOrb aquariums have a true 5-stage filtration system including biological, mechanical, chemical, water stabilization and oxygenation that keeps it clean. The filter is conveniently located at the bottom of the aquarium, and the ceramic media surrounding it promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria.
  • VIBRANT, MOOD-ENHANCING LIGHTING — Use the included remote control to select one of the 16 preset colors, fade through the entire spectrum of colors, and control the brightness of the LED lights. You can also set automatic 8-, 10-, 12- or 14-hour day and night cycles for a more natural scene for your aquarium inhabitants. This natural cycle helps cut down on algae blooms, which benefits fish health, water quality, and cuts down on routine maintenance.
  • EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO GET STARTED, JUST ADD DECOR — Includes a 16-gallon (60 L) acrylic aquarium, multi-colored LED lighting with remote, a new quiet air pump, a low-voltage 12V transformer, filter, air stone, ceramic media, starter water treatments, and instructions. Just add decorations! Also includes a 2-year warranty.

Questions? We've Got You.

Are biOrb aquariums freshwater and saltwater compatible?

Yes. biOrb aquariums come with everything needed for a freshwater setup. For a saltwater setup, you can adapt the Service Kit by removing the foam. You would then need to source the salt and hydrometer at your local pet store. If a higher-intensity light is needed, there are a few add-ons you could source. We recommend using an 8-gallon or larger biOrb aquarium but always consult your local saltwater aquarium shop for best results. See our tips and tricks for more details.

How often do I need to clean a biOrb aquarium?

We recommend a simple cleaning routine every 4–6 weeks. biOrb aquariums feature an integrated 5-stage filtration system that keeps water clearer for longer, minimizing maintenance. With our Service Kits, replacing the filter is quick and mess-free. Just a few minutes of care helps keep your aquarium healthy and beautiful.

Is the CLASSIC a good choice for beginners?

Yes, the biOrb CLASSIC is perfect for beginners and hobbyists alike. It comes as a complete kit with everything you need to get started, including a filter, air pump, LED lighting, and water treatments. Its all-in-one design removes the guesswork, making it easy to set up and even easier to enjoy.

What kind of fish can I keep in a CLASSIC aquarium?

The type and number of fish will depend on the size you choose:

  • CLASSIC 15 (4 gallons): Ideal for small shrimp, snails, or a single betta.
  • CLASSIC 30 (8 gallons): Great for a small group of white cloud minnows or tetras.
  • CLASSIC 60 (16 gallons): Can support a small community of peaceful freshwater fish.

We always recommend cycling your tank first and checking with your local aquatic specialist to make sure your fish are a good match.

What makes the CLASSIC different from other biOrb aquariums?

The CLASSIC is our original and most iconic design, featuring a sleek, globe shape that offers a 360° view of your underwater world. While other biOrb lines (like TUBE or FLOW) offer rectangular or cylindrical styles, the CLASSIC delivers a timeless look with a compact footprint, perfect for desktops, entryways, or as a conversation-starting décor piece.

Each biOrb aquarium shares the same filtration technology, high-quality acrylic build, and easy-care promise, so you can choose the shape that best suits your space and style.

Does the MCR light turn off completely at night?

Not automatically. The MCR timer ends in a soft blue “night mode,” not full darkness. This setting is designed to mimic moonlight and provide a calming nighttime environment for your aquarium. If you prefer complete darkness, simply turn the light off using the remote or inline switch.

Does the MCR timer work with color options?

No, the timer function works with white light only. When you set a timer (8, 10, 12, or 14 hours), your biOrb will follow a natural white-light cycle starting in deep blue, rising to white, then returning to blue “night mode.” Colored lighting options must be selected and adjusted separately.

Absolutely Love

"this is the prettiest tank I’ve ever seen looks like a piece of artwork on my table. My fish are so happy in it!! i’m just tweaking the filter a little instead of using the carbon and the filter that comes with the tank. I’m using a sponge and ceramic rings that hold the bacteria that I’ll just clean when I do the tank cleaning. that way I don’t have to keep buying more filters. it’s definitely easier doing it the Biorb way, but you still have to buy the filters which could get costly. overall, I’m really happy with this tank and I also have two 4 gallon Biorb tanks on my kitchen counter that look amazing."

"I love it!! It is so big and awesome. Great value."

The tank is gorgeous, setup

"The tank is gorgeous, setup super easy the only negative thing I can say is the heater is not included in the “everything you need” setup. It would also be nice if the heater was less obvious in the tank once added. We’ve added fish and they seem to be happy with decorations and hiding spots that we also added."

Beautiful and Fun

"I love this not just because it’s aesthetically pleasing, but because it makes the entirety of aquarium keeping a no-fuss job. I’m very impressed and I think my nano-fish community are happy too. Especially the schooling Pygmy corydoras…they love to school in circles for hours! I love this thank!"

To Orb or Not To Orb?

"I inherited this system from a neighbor who passed away and it was in pretty bad shape when I got it. I was able to save a few fish and had to do a lot of cleaning, but overall it was easy to set up and figure out with the online documentation (I didn't have any materials that came with the tank). A few thoughts: Pros: - Proprietary system makes it easy to assemble and change out filtration - Lights are nice and provide options - Unusual shape makes for a conversation piece Cons: - The spherical shape is nice in theory, but in practice there is so much refraction, reflection, and distortion that it's like trying to set up a tank in a funhouse hall of mirrors. It also makes it harder to actually see the fish unless they are directly in your field of view. So if fish observation is your thing, a more traditional shape might be for you. - I know I said the proprietary system is a plus (it is), it's also a negative as you have to buy an entire kit (which includes water conditioner and an algae wipe) to get a replacement filter (and replace it every 4-6 weeks). Obviously, this is more expensive than just being able to buy a pack of filters if you don't need the other items, and subscribing offers no savings, unlike many other companies that offer at least 10% off if you subscribe. Overall, this is a fine tank if you want a quick setup for fish, but I don't think I would have purchased it on my own due to the drawbacks."

Q&A

I inherited this aquarium from a neighbor, but the tank was in terrible shape and all components needed to be cleaned. What's the best way to clean the ceramic rock media, artificial plants, and sculpture for reintroduction into the tank? I don't want to bring anything undesirable back into the environment.
Hello John. You may clean the plants and sculpture with warm soapy water using a cleaning tool/brush: https://us.biorb.com/products/55249 We do not recommend cleaning your ceramic media to not disrupt the beneficial bacteria. Here are some excellent fish keeping basics and maintenance tips & tricks on our website that would be helpful: https://us.biorb.com/pages/tips-tricks We hope this helps!
Can this be used as a mini-reef tank?
Hello Robert. Our biOrb aquariums are compatible with freshwater or saltwater aquarium setups. We hope this helps!
I need a replacement lid for a 60L Classic. Are they now available?
Hello Latricia. Here is the link to the MCR light for this biOrb CLASSIC 60 aquarium with MCR. Please refer to the images of the plugs to make sure you select the correct one that matches your transformer. https://us.biorb.com/collections/aquarium-accessories-spare-parts/products/72168?variant=42220247679203 Thank you!
Is there a heater? Or how do you add water heater to it?
Hello Kirsten. We do carry a biOrb Heater Pack that is sold separately, https://us.biorb.com/products/45999 The biOrb Heater Pack is designed to be compatible with all biOrb aquarium models, except the HALO 15 (4-gallon). It includes a heater stand with suction cups that allow you to firmly attach the heater onto both curved and flat surfaces of your aquarium. We hope this helps!
How much are all the accessories cost in picture cost and how many fish can I put in this please
Hi Rick, For the accessories, you can use our 'Shop the Look' feature under the resources tab on our store site. It shows all the accessories with their quantities and costs for any imagery we use on our site. Here's a link to the aquarium you referenced: https://us.biorb.com/products/classic-60-recipe-4. For a 60 L / 16 gal aquarium we would recommend low maintenance fish with a low bioload (fish that don't produce a lot of waste). For example you could have up to 8 Cherry Barbs, 6 Cardinal Tetras, 6 Killifish, 8 Guppies, 8 Danios, 6 Silver Mollies, 8 Harlequin Rasboras, 8 Black Neon Tetras, 2 Gouramis, 6 Red Platys, or 1 Betta. We hope this helps!
